Government Spending
Government spending is out of control. Trillions of dollars have been spent in the last few months and the federal government is discussing plans to spend trillions more. How much debt are we going to saddle our grandchildren with?
Families all across the nation are cutting their budgets. New layoffs are announced each day and even those who are fortunate enough to keep their jobs are making cautious decisions about their personal spending. Everyone is tightening their belts: except for the government. The government and those making money off of the government are the only ones who are in the mood for a spending spree. At a time when the government should be reducing spending, or at the very least freezing spending, our government is creating new entitlements and increasing deficits.
Then there are the government workers who have the nerve to ask for pay raises. State workers in West Virginia have been demanding pay raises, and not just the teachers this time. Despite West Virginia’s poor economic climate, our Governor received a pay raise this year and is now one of the highest paid state executives in the nation.
As conservative taxpayers, we need to demand that government become more accountable with our money. And it is OUR money. J.C. Watts had a great line at the recent Kanawha County Republican Lincoln Day Dinner: “We don’t need more taxes; we need more tax payers.” Nothing could be more accurate for the state of West Virginia.
West Virginia is one of only two states in the nation where more people are dependent on the public sector for their income than on the private sector. We need more taxpayers and fewer people taking the people’s money.
