Too Many Taxes
In West Virginia, there seems to be more taxes than there are mountains. There is a pop tax, a food tax, a sales tax, a B & O tax, a franchise tax, a personal property tax (on your car and your dog), an income tax, a self-employment tax, severance taxes, an unemployment compensation tax, etc. etc.
Not only does West Virginia have more taxes on individuals and corporations than most other states, but it also has some of the highest rates for those taxes. And when the government is not taxing you it is making you pay a “user fee” or pay $25 because a parking meter was broken in downtown Charleston.
Enough is enough. Due to high energy prices over the last few years, our state government has enjoyed budget “surpluses” while many other states have been struggling. Some of this tax payer money was used to pay down previous debts of politicians long gone, but much more of it has been spent on continuing to prop up a state government that is expensive and inefficient.
After the state and the city are done with you, then the federal comes in to take the rest of what you have left. The government taxes your gasoline, your income, your investments, and now they want to tax carbon.
Everywhere you turn, you are paying taxes. Unless you aren’t paying taxes, and then you get an earned income tax credit that comes in the form of a check from the government other than the one that comes at the first of the month.
